Oncheon-dong in Asan is the neighborhood of Onyang Hot Springs. A Korea Tourism Organization account links its market with the former royal retreat, whose kitchens once needed local supplies. Later, periodic trading and the move of the market into Oncheon-dong added a different layer: an ordinary commercial center around a famous spring.
The tourism organization's market record describes customers arriving from Asan and neighboring towns, buying produce, household goods and food. That is a useful correction to the idea of a spa district serving visitors alone. The market has a regional everyday role as well as a relationship with bathing and travel.
